The 49th International Film Festival of India will pay tribute to the Kapoors family who have been integral to Indian cinema with a special section dedicated to the family – from Pritviraj Kapoor to Ranbir Kapoor. Vice-chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa, Rajendra Talak also confirmed that the section will be inaugurated by one of the Kapoors.
The country focus for this year is Israel with the screening of about 6 to 7 films in the section. Under the Cinema of the World, a total of 64 countries have confirmed their participation. “A plan on special state focus film section is also underway with films from those particular states being screened. As Narendra Modi’s ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative is on between Jharkhand and Goa, there might be some film exchange talks too,” said Talak. A special sports film section is also announced with about 6 films.
The delegate registration for cine enthusiasts, professionals and others have also opened, for a fee of Rs1000, while for students the registration is free. The registration can be done through www.iffigoa.org. All applications of delegates who are registered with IFFI for the last 2 years will be approved within 24 hours and new applications will be approved within 48 hours.
“Bhupal Ramnathkar is appointed as a design consultant to assist Entertainment Society of Goa for the decor and execution of the work for the event,” added Talak.
IFFI this year will pay a tribute to Sashi Kapoor, Sridevi and Vinod Khanna in a special Retro section.
Like last year apart from the main event, the ‘Bioscope’ event will be held at SAG Ground, open for delegates, non delegates and children. There will be 4 inflated theatres for children’s cinema, Marathi cinema and Indian cinema, with 5.1 sound systems and a seating capacity of 150 seats each. A Skill Studio giving the youth a glimpse into the career opportunities in the film industry will also be a platform for the film enthusiasts and aspiring film makers to understand the industry.
An interview session with a film celebrity by a renowned film journalist will be held at the ‘Katta’ from November 21 to November 27 between 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. followed by public interaction.
“During the holidays a special section for children will be open wherein films and other AR/VR activities will be held. There will be a performing area with live music and international DJs playing after 9 p.m. at the village with F&B and handicraft stalls. AR/VR games for people of all ages will also be there,” mentioned Talak.
He also added that of a budget of 18.5 crore, they have saved around 1.3 crore as the Bioscope village cost will be borne by the Encompass company through tendering. [NT]
