Vasco: Cultural activities and other co-curricular events have come to a standstill at Ravindra Bhavan Baina in absence on an accountant for the past four months.
Many artistes and groups, who had performed at the Bhavan, are reportedly waiting to receive their payments not yet cleared in the absence of an accountant, says the vice chairman.
Most of the functioning at the Bhavan has been adversely affected in absence of accountant for more than four months. Payments of the employees and artistes and other miscellaneous works have hit a roadblock as there is no accountant to clear the payments and bills sanctioned.
Speaking to the Herald, Dr Dharmendra Prabhudessai vice chairman of Ravindra Bhawan, stated, “We are fed up with the present scenario wherein all our events at Ravindra Bhavan have come to halt since there is no accountant for the past four months.”
“Many people who have performed and presented their events are inquiring about their payments, which have been sanctioned but are yet to get cleared from the accountant,” he added.
When asked whether any efforts have been made in this matter, Dr Prabhudessai said that they have written to the Directorate of Art and Culture. “We recently discussed the issue with our MLA and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and he has assured us to look into this matter and come up with a solution,” he added.
He also urged the department to take cognizance of this matter and act speedily and give them an accountant. “Because of this (absence of an accountant) we couldn’t organise any workshops, summer camps, competitions at Ravindra Bhawan. Many parents asked us the reason behind lack of activities taking place at the Ravindra Bhawan Baina,” Dr Prabhudessai informed. [H]
