Activist seeks probe into Madkaikar’s assets

Panaji: Social activist Aires Rodrigues on Thursday approached the Lokayukta seeking a probe into the disproportionate assets of power minister Pandurang Madkaikar.

In his complaint, Rodrigues stated that Madkaikar’s Nikitasha Realtors Pvt Ltd had, on April 1, inaugurated a palatial bungalow next to the Bom Jesus Basilica, Old Goa, which was estimated to have cost Rs 200 crore. To support his complaint, Rodrigues attached photographs of the bungalow and a copy of the affidavit of assets that Madkaikar had filed along with his nomination papers for the 2017 assembly elections.

Rodrigues, in his complaint, pointed out that in his income tax returns for the 2015-16 fiscal, Madkaikar had shown that his total income for the year was a mere Rs 1.44 lakh, and that of his wife Janita, just Rs 24,389. He also stated that among his other liabilities, Madkaikar had shown a personal loan of Rs 10 lakh taken from Shiv Samarth Motors and another personal loan of Rs 5 lakh obtained from his brother Dhaku.
