Board mulls new tests to make students competitive

Porvorim: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) said it has been in the process of using application type of test items for Class XI and XII board examinations.“The board is in the process of using application type of test items and slowly we will introduce it for Class XI as well as XII. This will facilitate students to prepare for competitive exams across the nation. At present we are just concentrating on 10 percent and we might increase it to 25 percent in the coming years,” GBSHSE Chairperson Jose Rebello said.He added, “We have a 20 percent internal component and the average student will easily get around 60 percent and the board papers are fully balanced as there is something for the bright as well as average students but if they want to do really well they have to be challenged and that is what the board is doing at the present but in a phased manner. We tried this in last year’s economics paper and most of the students loved this and actually did better in that paper. In such type of question you are free to write it in your way and interpret it. But when you ask application questions, the students get to learn a lot.”
