Mapusa: Candolim Sports Club scripted a 3-1 win over Shree Nagesh Maharudra Sports Club, Curca while Albert Developers continued their rich form as they maintained their unbeaten run in the league following their 6-2 win over Milagres Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Second Division League play-offs matches played on Tuesday.
At Duler Stadium, Candolim who were leading 2-1 at half time have four points from two matches with today`s win while Shree Nagesh are yet to open their account.
Candolim had a great chance to open the account in the 20th minute through Saprem Diukar whose shot from close range went straight into the waiting keeper hands after being put through by Pundalik Naik from a free-kick delivered into the box by Akshya Dabolkar.
Curca too had their chance in the 24th minute but were denied by the alertness of keeper Augustin D’Mello who left his rearguard in the nick of time to clear the ball before Vihar Kholkar could slam the ball into the net from a clever pass by Sharan Adkonkar.
It did not take long for Curca to break the deadlock when Mayur Vernekar`s fierce shot crashed into the net after being released by Rahul Shirodkar with an inch prefect pass.
Stung by the goal, Candolim responded strongly and got back on terms in the 36th minute when Michael Dias scored from the rebound off a free-kick taken by Vinayak Mulgaonkar which was not properly cleared by the Curca defence to make it 1-1.
Candolim got their second goal in added time when Aayesh Tari’s long ball found Rama Parsenkar who outsmart his marker and send a low cross from the left flank which found Saprem Diukar who smartly dinked the ball over keeper Yogesh to make it 2-1.
Crossing ends, Candolim wrapped up all the three points from a spot kick awarded by referee Pramanand Mandrekar after Nagesh defender Sahil Kundaikar had used his hand to stop the ball getting to Pundalik Naik. Pundalik who stepped forward made no mistake with the placement to make it 3-1.
Meanwhile at Ella ground, after round 2, Albert Developers are on six points at the top followed by Candolim Sports Club who are on four points. Milagres SC are on one point while Shree Nagesh Maharudra are yet to open their account. Gaurav Kankonkar was the highlight of the evening as the lad scored a treble for Albert Developers.
Riding high on confidence following their win in the previous encounter, Albert Developers began as clear favourites and took the lead in the fourth minutes through Gaurav Kankonkar. Albert Developers versatile player Joel Fernandes added the second in the 23rd minute to make it 2-0. But just when it looked as Albert Developers would have an easy walk in the park, Milagres SC scored twice with Nitesh Salgaocar and Valito Miranda scoring to make it 2-2.
The half time score read 2-2.
Crossing over the teams had to start all over again. Albert Developers gained the lead once again in the 54th minute through Jolitan Fernandes who completed his brace in the 66th minute with a sublime strike.
Suddenly Milagres SC found themselves down by two goals deficit and had a mountain to climb to get back into the game. Their surge to get the much needed goals cost them dearly as Albert Developers scored two more goals late in the game through Gaurav Kankonkar, who completed his hat-trick netting in the 74th and 82nd minutes.
