On the basis of information extricated from Virendra Tawde over the last nine days in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody — while he was being interrogated in connection with the 2013 murder of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar — a joint operation was conducted on Tuesday by the CBI and Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Kolhapur, which is probing the 2015 murder of comrade Govind Pansare.
The joint team conducted searches at the Ramnathi Ashram of the Sanatan Sanstha in Ponda, Goa, with details of this investigation likely to be handed over to court at the next hearing.
An officer attached with the SIT told Pune Mirror, “Though the investigation into the murders of all three rationalists has not yet been handed over to CBI, our Kolhapur SIT as well as the Karnataka Crime Investigation Department (CID) team probing the 2015 murder of author M M Kalburgi have camped together in Kolhapur with the CBI, trying to unearth Sanatan Sanstha links. The operation in Goa was part of these strategic searches.”
A CBI officer revealed, “Both the Kolhapur SIT and CBI teams are discussing details of Tawde’s interrogation that indicate his role in the Pansare murder as well. After finalising on a strategy, the SIT may take custody of Tawde from Yerwada Central Jail, where he is housed at the moment.” [Goanews]
