Saligao: A four-member delegation from the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) met the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) Chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar recently to follow up on the memorandum submitted by them in January seeking action with regards to the functioning of Saligao garbage treatment plant.
The delegation met the chairman seeking an update on the matter as the stench from the plant has caused air pollution affecting Candolim, Calangute and its surrounding areas. The Forum threatened that the residents will be forced to take to the streets and agitate if the government fails to find a solution to the stench emanating from the Solid Waste Management plant.
The GSPCB chairman assured to look into the matter and do the needful.
Calangute Constituency Forum President Premanand Divkar highlighted the sad state of affairs at the Saligao treatment plant and that the Calangute people are affected by the stench emanating from the plant.
“It is decided that the people from Calangute and Saligao Constituencies will come on the streets in case the problem is not solved by month-end. The situation is turning from bad to worse and there is no solution. The authorities are cool but the people will not remain silent for long. We will be forced to agitate and come on the roads if the authorities fail to resolve the issue by month-end,” Divkar warned.
Earlier, the Pilerne Citizens Forum and Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) threatened that the residents will be forced to agitate if the government failed to find a solution to the stench emanating from the Saligao plant. [H]
