CCP begins de-weeding of St Inez nullah.

Panaji: The much awaited cleaning and de-weeding of St Inez nullah was commenced by the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP), on Monday, with the funds provided by the corporate houses.Addressing the media, the CCP Mayor Surendra Furtado said that the contract has been awarded to Kafmar Environmental Services LLP, having Sweden-made amphibian machine, for Rs 15 lakh. The amphibian machine – Truxor DM works on diesel. It is fitted with different equipment, like water filters. The machine, owned by Caezar Fernandes, floats on water as well as runs on the land. It is very light in weight and can go even deep in the sea. The machine can remove 10 tonne of garbage within just 10 minutes and can lift garbage upto 700 kg at a time, revealed a supervisor. The de-weeding of the nullah was minutely observed by the Mayor along with Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate and councillors new and old Bento Loureno, Uday Madkaikar, Kabir Makhija and others. The funds for the work have come from corporate houses – Alcon Constructions, Anil Counto Group, Vintage Hospital, Architect Kenkre, Fisherman Wharf and Kamat Real Estates. The de-weeding and cleaning of 1.5 km stretch of the nullah will take 10 days to complete. Kafmar started the de-weeding and cleaning work at 11 a.m. from Thomas Garage, located opposite Sewerage Treatment Plant, Tonca as directed by the CCP.Furtado said from the stretch of nullah passing through Camara Bhat falls under Taleigao panchayat, adding nullah de-weeding  work will proceed from the STP to Campal bridge stretch then to Vintage Hospital, and then the stretch behind the Directorate of Goa Fire and Emergency Services will be cleaned.Anil Counto of Alcon Constructions visited the site and met the Mayor and discussed the process of cleaning and de-weeding.Speaking further the CCP Mayor said that Curca panchayat has stopped the garbage trucks from dumping the garbage since Friday, and added that he threatened to stop the people conducting business in the CCP market.“If the panchayat co-operates then the CCP will reciprocate,” he added.
