While deciding to accept the scheme, the Church authorities are looking forward towards it to develop the infrastructure and other amenities in the periphery of the monuments.
Speaking to media, Fr Joaquim Loiola Pereira, Secretary to the Archbishop who was present for the meeting, said they were unanimous in the decision that they should not say no to the scheme as it is beneficial to Goans. “It will help in developing the infrastructure and increasing footfalls. Currently, the churches are owned by us, while they are maintained by ASI,” he explained. Fr Valeriano Vaz, Financial Administrator of Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, also expressed similar views. “The core areas will not be allowed to be touched,” he stated. [H]
