Complaint against Cong Mahila chief

Panjim: A women’s NGO has lodged a complaint against Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho, for disclosing the identity of a victim of molestation, who is also minor.

The Congress leader has been accused of disclosing the identity of the victim and her family during the former’s visit to the victim’s house.
“Pratima Coutinho last week has revealed the identity of a minor, who is a molestation victim. She along with her team had gone to visit the family of the girl who was molested by a boy from Jharkhand.

She put up the pictures and the details about the family on social media,” NGO Savera’s Tara Kerkar said in a complaint to the Women’s Police Station.

The NGO has urged the police to register a case against Coutinho under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and POCSO.

The women police confirmed receiving the complaint but an FIR is yet to be registered. “We are examining the case and have called for the photographs and video of the offence. After scrutiny it will be decided to register the FIR,” said an officer.

Coutinho had also come under the scanner for disclosing the identity of another victim of rape and her toddler, during their meeting with the Chairperson of Goa State Commission for Women in the same week. [H]
