Equality For Goans
Nairobi, December 1945
The Editor, Colonial Times,
Sir,
-- The unchecked race of the Whites of this country; for the establishment of
their venomous and dominating influence in the political and economic fields of
the country, in the sinister garb of the self appointed trustees of millions of
the dumb “God-children” of this soil has timely alarmed the other vigilant
communities.
The
underhand endeavors of the power hungry Whites to arrest the growing economic
and political strength of the other races comprising the population of this
country are not unknown.
The
Indians, the Arabs, the Africans they have all striven for years and are
striving amidst bitter opposition to frustrate the heinous manoevours of these
whites to rob them of their legitimate rights.
But
where do the Goans of this land stand? The
leaders of the Goan community have never expressed their views on the subject.
Are they really content with what meagre rights the Goans are
“enjoying” at the present?
Is it not high time that the leaders of the Goan community should cast away their years old timidity and declare in bold and unequivocal terms the legitimate aspirations of the Goans for equality in all walks of life in the country?
