Mrs. Froilano de Mello

She was Hedwig Bachmann, born in Switzerland. Formerly Principal (at age 25) of School of Domestic Sciences, in St. Gallen.
Married to Froilano in 1923.

Author of the book "On the Soul of the Indian Woman"- as reflected in the Folklore of the Konkan.

She died at age 96, in New York State, near Burnt Hills.

Lived 25 years in Goa, 26 years in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and last 19 years in the U.S.A.

She corresponded for years with Dr. Albert Schweitzer - a friend and colleague of Froilano - and her letters, as well as those of Schweitzer to her, are kept in the Albert Schweitzer Museum, in Schweitzer's home town in Alsatia.
