Firemen save Rs 5 lakh worth property in Baina fire

Vasco: In a midnight operation, fire fighting officials managed to extinguish the blaze reported in the market complex at Baina. Fire fighters broke open the lock and rescued a kitten trapped inside the complex.

Francisco Mendes, a fire official from Vasco said that they got a call from Panjim office at 1.30 am about the fire at Baina. “Our team rushed to Chota Bazaar. Passersby noticed the fire and informed us. We broke open the lock and entered the premises. Some commodities were charred. We noticed a kitten trapped inside and rescued it,” he said.

“The loss is estimated to be around Rs 50,000. We managed to save property worth around Rs 5 lakh. The reason for the fire is not yet known,” he added. [H]
