Furtado alleges false affidavit filed, former commissioner denies

Panjim: The Panjim market scam has returned to haunt the Corporation of City of Panaji. Former Mayor Surendra Furtado has alleged that former Commissioner Deepak Desai filed a false affidavit before the High Court of Bombay at Goa in connection with illegal shops in the market.

Addressing the media on Friday, Furtado stated that Desai filed a false affidavit in 2017 that he had sealed 22 CCP shops in the municipal market and that they are in the custody of CCP. He cited a RTI reply mentioning that shops were not sealed.

When Herald contacted Desai he said, “These shops were sealed by my predecessor and continue to remain shut. Every action initiated is through the Corporation and not an individual. I have all the evidence and will produce at the right time.”[H]
