Hindustan petroleum corporation limited and Bharat petroleum corporation limited have decided to appoint 11 more LPG distributors to add to their 33-strong dealer network and improve services to their 4.9 lakh consumers.
While HPCL will appoint a distributor each in Curchorem, Margao and Cuncolim in south Goa and Ponda, Bicholim, Saligao, Sanquelim and Panaji in north Goa, BPCL will appoint one each in Ponda, Old Goa and Panaji.
"There has been a longstanding demand from consumers, consumer forums and government authorities to appoint more distributors. None, after all, had been appointed for almost a decade. More distributors are expected to improve services," said an HPCL official.
BPCL officials said the two distributors in Panaji cater to 25,000 customers spread across the city and the outlying areas of Merces, Ribandar, St Cruz, Porvorim, Nerul, Verem and Divar. "One more distributor will help streamline services and customers will get their refills faster," said a BPCL official. A similar effect is expected in Old Goa and Ponda.
The decision to improve the distributor network has been welcomed by consumers. Goa civic and consumer action network (GOACAN) said it is a major step towards dismantling the present distributors' monopoly and providing relief to harassed LPG consumers. [TOI]
