Majority of the Margao Municipal Councillors have impressed upon Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to scrap the e-tender floated by the civic body and ensure that government funds are not misused and siphoned off by “masters in this trade”.
The 12 councillors brought to the notice of the CM that the ousted Chairperson Arthur D’Silva had allegedly taken hurried financial decisions, including clearing of bills without following proper account procedures, after the no-confidence motion was filed against him. “This is a clear indication of the wrong doings of the council during the corresponding period,” the group alleged.
They pointed out that the 12-member group had been repeatedly demanding for the suspension of the tender notice on account of severe flaws, including duplication and partial execution of works tendered. “We are aware that the government has undertaken several austerity measures in view of the adverse financial conditions.
However, in the case of the Margao Municipal Council, we fail to understand its wisdom of tendering works which are already executed or cannot be executed, thereby leaving scope for misuse of precious funds,” the petition stated. [H]
