GMC needs blood donors: Dr D’Mello

Medical officer of Blood Bank of GMC Hospital at Bambolim, Dr Clare D’Mello stated that the Bambolim Hospital is in need of voluntary blood donors.
She was speaking at blood donation camp organized by the Kesari International in association with Goa Medical College Hospital.
“Several operations are performed in the hospital regularly and to meet the demands of blood, we have to depend on replacement donors,” said Dr D’Mello.
Dr D’Mello further said any healthy person in the age group of 18 to 65 can donate blood and only 350 ml of blood is extracted. “This blood is subjected to test to ensure that it is free from diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Malaria and Syphilis.”
“The blood of one donor can generally save lives of 3-4 patients. The amount of blood donated is regenerated in the body within one or two days,” said Dr D’Mello.
Earlier, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Visranti Dessai inaugurated the camp. Kesari International President Ramkrisna Naik welcomed the gathering, Venkatesh Naik compered the programme. Three people donated their blood in the camp. Dr D’Mello was assisted by technicians, Timuti Fernandes and Teja Morajker. [H]
