Traditional occupation: Govt notifies scheme of financial aid to persons of Goan origin

The government has notified the scheme for granting monthly financial assistance to the persons of Goan origin engaged in traditional occupation/ business, and the same would be implemented from April 1, 2013.

The Minister for Social Welfare, Mr Mahadev Naik, coming out with this information on Monday said that the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar had made a mention of the particular scheme in his budget speech, last year, and as per this scheme, those eligible under the scheme could avail a financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, the Minister for Social Welfare further said that those who want to avail the scheme should be the resident of Goa for at least 15 years, must be engaged in the traditional occupation/ business for a minimum period of 10 years, as also crossed the age of 50 years.
He also stated that the family income of the applicant from all sources should not exceed Rs 1.50 lakh and the beneficiaries need to submit registration document of the particular traditional occupation/ business from the concerned authority, besides copies of other documents like Aadhar card, ration card, birth certificate and so on.
Speaking further, Mr Naik said that the government intends to make a provision of Rs 10 crore for the scheme in the forthcoming budget. “Meanwhile, we are inviting applications from the desiring people to avail the scheme,” he added.[NT]
