Goa Foundation     vs.     State of Goa and ors.

Challenges the consent orders issued by the SPCB under the Water and Air Acts enabling Meta Strips to operate its scrap processing unit at Sancoale. Admitted. Final hearing fixed for June, 2001.

68) CHALLENGES CONSTRUCTION OF A RESIDENTIAL BUNGALOW IN ASSAGAO NEXT TO THE ASSAGAO SPRINGS

W.P.No.228/2000

Goa Foundation and Desmond Alvares     vs.      State of Goa and ors.

Challenges the ongoing illegal construction of a residential bungalow on the grounds that its septic tanks are bound to contaminate the ancient Assagao springs on which many persons depend for their source of drinking water. Second ground of action is intense noise pollution association with an illegal religious structure also adjacent the spring.

Status: Disposed of by judgement dated 26.2.2001. Steps permissible in law have already been taken against the construction which is now stayed. On noise pollution, action will be taken if complaint is filed before the authorities.

69) CHALLENGE TO APPOINTMENTS OF MEMBERS OF THE STATE POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD

W.P.No.309/2000

Goa Foundation      vs.     State of Goa and ors.

Petition challenges all the appointments made to the SPCB on the ground that these are in violation of the requirements of the statute.

Status: Admitted. Pending final hearing.
