on the Web
Goa's popular cartoonist Alexyz has put his sports strip "Silly
Point" on the new cricket website www.that'scricket.com and has
emerged, probably, as the first Indian cartoonist to join the webwagon
with a sports strip.
Hardly
had we digested the news, Yolanda & Rudolf Kammermeier, of the Art
Chamber of Galeria de Bellas Artes in Calangute, splashed more cyber
news for Goa's burgeoning artist fraternity. Goa-Art.com has pioneered
the first Goan website to cater to paintings and painters in the State.
The
Art Chamber has been consistently promoting the works of Goa's cream
of artists. Moreover, they also display the paintings of artists from
the rest of India like Paresh Hazra and even foreigners like Victor
Lukin. Within about a couple of years the Chamber has made their lovely
gallery at Gauravaddo in Calangute, the focus of attention of art connoisseurs.
The new art website, displaying the best paintings of nearly 17 contemporary
Goan painters, should soon emerge as the best Indian site in the field
of fine art.
The
entire group of Goa's popular young and old artists were present at
the inauguration of the website on March 3, 2000. The site has been
beautifully designed by Rudolf Kammermeier, an experienced artist, in
collaboration with dynamic cyber-designer Conrad Pinto of Pinto &
Pinto. For exposing the creative talents of Goan artists to the world
wide, there couldn't have been a better forum.

The
students of the Goa College of Art in Panjim had the privilege of observing
Prof A P Santhanaraj, a renowed and highly
esteemed painter and former principal of the Government College of Arts
& Craft, Chennai, demonstrate the intricacies and finer details of
painting.
The occasion
was a demonstration cum workshop organised by the Regional Centre Lalit
Kala Academy, Chennai, and the Goa College of Art. The
weeklong workshop was inaugurated by A R Shirodkar, Principal of the Goa
College of Art on February 28, 2000, when Santhanaraj painted a portrait
one of the students, compositions and drawing in ink on paper besides
discussing the various aspects of drawings and paintings. It was an inspiring
experience for the art students as well as teachers. The workshop was
co-ordinated by Hanuman Kambli, Lecturer of Goa College of Art.
Ms PRANALI NAIK's
lovely canvasses have been consistently seen at most of the recent exhibitions
held in Panjim. Pranali's keen eye doesn't miss a single detail and her
works generaly over around the common rustics of her village, be it indoors
or outdoors. Of course, water colours have been her forte.
RAJENDRA
UPSAPKAR could have painted quite a lot more than the trickle he
has produced so far. The young artist from Mapusa has a vast potential
with his brush, which, if explored adequately, could take him to dizzy
heights. Recently his painting bagged an award of Rs.10,000 at an exhibition
held at the Menezes Branganza hall in Panjim.
DUSITA
NARINTARANGKUR NA AYUDHAYA (NAPHA) D'SOUSAis quite a long name
for an artist? Perhaps it is because it extends from Thailand to Goa by
birth and marriage respectively. We wouldn't have known about her fantastic
talent were it not for her marriage to
Savio de Souza, a Goan, whom she met at the Baroda University, where she
attained her Master's Degree in Fine Arts. Dusita's paintings emerge from
her innermost feelings and dreams, expressed in some of the brightest
and vibrant shades artists indulge in. Her well received exhibition "Dreamscapes"
was on show at the Art Chamber from Feb 2 to 22.
Pranali
Naik, Sandesh Naik and Rajesh Salgaokar put up some very aesthetic
paintings on show at the Kala Academy Art Gallery in Panjim from Feb 23
to 28. The exhibition was inaugurated by Vishnu S Wagh, vice chairman
of the Kala Academy. Each of the young artists exhibited some of their
best paintings and drew much praise and appreciation from the visitors.
