'Tum Ogi Rav' Sounds Good By Daniel F. de
Souza
SAMUEL Carvalho's latest audio cassette "Tum Ogi Rav"
(Konkani), presented by Samhen Productions, has been doing well with
discerning listeners. Released recently without much fanfare, the
album has logged handsome success at the counter. "Tum Ogi Rav " the
audio cassette and CD with a big budget, has some renowned singers,
whose vocals enhance its reputation and market value.
Tum Ogi Rav has six tracks on each side with the title-track
"Tum Ogi Rav" rendered in style by versatile Jose Rod, who
highlights the evil of gossiping and makes a fervent plea against
it. "Krim Bhogsonam" by the veteran of Konkani stage, Jr. Rod, is
another powerful rendition. "Maim-chi Chuk", a duet by Bab Peter and
Felcy serves as a eye-opener to all parents and is a lesson in
parenting, specially for those with grown-up daughters. However, the
song that heads straight for the heart and touches one's
sensibilities is a solo--"Baby Swizel"--a melodious rendition by Jr.
Nelson. This song is based on the now famous ant-eaten Baby Swizel
episode, which rocked Goa sometime ago. The musical score possesses
a punchy beat. "Atamcheo Bailo" by Querobina and "Margai" by Lawrie
make up the remaining tracks on side-A.
The flip side takes off with "Pai-che Koxtt", a true story
sung in his inimitable style by none other than evergreen singer Bab
Peter. Producer Samuel Carvalho, though not an established singer,
has put up a brave effort in "Bhavponn", a solo with some
soul-stirring lyrics and pleasing chord work. "Devak Man" too has
fine lyrics. It's sung by Lawry. "Korneom", sung by Jose Rod and
Felcy, makes a good duet by way of vocals but the message sounds a
bit pedestrian. In "Gharacho Diret", veteran artist Antonette
confirms that the throb in her power-packed vocals hasn't dropped
one bit. The last track on side B is "Jith". Here too Jose Rod ain't
really exceptional but the lyrics do contain, particularly to the
youth, exhorting them to treat their parents as their friends and to
take them into full confidence in any situation to avoid grief later
on.
In
"Tum Ogi Rav", Samuel has roped in some of the big names who are
rendering their voice in a rare combination. The music too comes
from the stable of Goa's much sought after maestro, Josinho, and
hence displays its appealing calibre. The cassette has been recorded
at the Whitney Studios, Margao, with Orville as the recordist.
Priced at Rs.60, the cassette is presented in an attractive jacket
designed by Kimberley's. This is Samuel's second audio cassette, and
better stuff is expected of him soon. Go ahead, add "Tum Ogi Rav" to
your collection today, before the stocks run out.
