Sundor
Goem
Kandollechim Kirnam, the popular cultural troupe from
Candolim, release its new cassette and CD "Sundor Goem" at
the Black Box of the Kala Academy in Panjim, on June 24, at the
hands of music maestro Fr Peter Cardozo, the Director of the Pilar
Music Academy.
"Sundor
Goem" is a collection of original mandos, dulpods and other Goan
folk songs, whose lyrics have been penned by Tomazinho Cardozo,
while the music is provided by late Johnson and A C Vaz. The score
change for the folk songs, which have been rendered to music by
Mukush.
| Tomazinho Cardozo has, of course, been keeping the
music making Goan tradition alive by producing audio album
periodically. The smart, creative
lyricist-playwright-politician does it quite ingeniously,
taking every aspect of Konkani folklore in his stride. Quite a
bit of experimentation, which other commercial music producers
fear, goes into the making of Tomazinho's productions. Though
he pens the lyrics himself, the lyrics are tuned to music by
some expert or other, and the vocalists too keep
changing. |
"YO GO TU MANDAR", a Konkani song book
written by Ulhas Buyao was released at the hands of Opposition
leader Luizinho Faleiro in Margao on June
21. |
Tomazinho's latest offering consists of 12 numbers:
Amchem Goem, Mollbar Kallem, Nistekaram, Visvasghat, Cholota
Vokol, Xetkamti, Sedache Kens, Hunga Hunga, Taria Mama, Gupit Mogu,
Eleisanv Eta Re, Fulvalim. These mandos, dulpods and other folk
songs have been rendered by the mellifluous Kandollechim Kirnam like
Irene Cardozo, Melba Britto, Lima Barreto, Sayonara Fernandes, Jose
Filipe Braganza, Lionel Fernandes, Xavier Fernandes, Anthony C Vaz
and Tomazinho Cardozo.
The music
accompanying the songs comes from Anita D'Souza and Goretti Vaz e
Pinheiro (violins), Orlando Noronha (Mandolin), Erle Britto (Rhythm
Guitar), Ashley Fernandes (Bass Guitar) Tomazinho Cardozo Ghumott
and Mukesh on the keyboards.
At the release function, Dr Sergio Mascarenhas de
Almeida, the Delegate of Fundacao Oriente in India, said that
Fundacao Oriente was pleased to associate with the music project.
Tomazinho, on his part, moaned the lack of enthusiasm among today's
youth for the mando, and urged the youth to preserve the rich mando
culture of Goa.
A
souvenir--Milestones in the realm of Mando--was released by
Dr Sergio Mascarenhas de Almeida and a book-Mando Goenchem Lok
Git-written by Tomazinho Cardozo, was released by Raul
Fernandes, the Managing Director of "Herald" daily.
Kandollechim
Kirnam presented some excellent mandos, dulpods and folk songs to
entertain the guests, who were welcomed by Joseph Philipe Braganza.
Irene Cardozo introduced the guest and Melba Britto proposed the
vote of thanks.
