GOA NETTERS' MEET
An Offline Hi

Time away from virtual realityAS previously proposed by Frederick Noronha (fred@bytesforall.com), the goanetters from various countries had an informal meet at Caritas Holiday Home, St Inez, Panjim, Goa, on December 21 (Friday), 2001, at lunchtime. Like the International Goan Convention, comanised in Goa by the World Wide Goans every year, the friendly Netters' Meet too has already become a tradition. It generally precedes the Convention, and is scheduled when overseas Goans return home for their Christmas holidays.

Ai Saiba, Mario has to leave!!Among those who had made it to the scene, eager to put faces to the names we are so acquainted with on the mailing lists, were: Eddie Fernandes (Goanet-UK), Aires Rodrigues (WWG), Mike Green, Kieran, Fred, Lira Fernandes (UK), Lianne Rodrigues, Alexyz and me. A couple of others, like Mario Fernandes, dropped in to be momentary guests. Some had sent messages saying a big "Hi".

Eddie looks out.Fred almost locked horns...Of course, Fred did make a point to say what would be good for the various mailing lists. And...yeah...if I am not mistaken, he did mention the blessings of Linux to the computer fraternity. Fred and Eddie did look forward fervently to any stray opportunity to lock horns but didn't quite succeed (probably because of cross-connections). Fred ended up lauding Eddie for being able to locate even a pin in the vast (internet) haystack.

John de SaJohn de Sa, associated with GOA, Qatar, and ancestral Cortalim in Goa, made it a point to join in the small jamboree. We got to know about what activities he is engaged in besides his job and the setting up of a website for the lovely Cortalim village across the Zuari river. Incidentally, Cortalim was a ideal meeting place for North and South Goans while waiting for the chugging, flat-bottomed ferry to arrive from Agassaim. John did have quite a few bright ideas as to how NRI Goans could contribute effectively to Goa..

Kieran GonsalvesLianne RodricksThere were not a large crowd and this suited the occasion perfectly to have a longer chat than it would have been possible with a larger gathering. We got the occasion to exchange greetings, and to put small "searches" for info about so-and-so and so-and-so.
