Good response to Cong’s Jana Gana rally in Ponda

Ponda: The “Jana Gana Mana, Nomon Tuka Goyakara” contact programme rally launched by the Congress Party to hear the grievances of the public received good response in Ponda on Wednesday.

A team of Congress office bearers and workers led by Goa unit President Girish Chondankar and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik visited the Ponda market and interacted with the people there on Wednesday. During the course of their interaction, the Congress leaders learnt that people were unhappy at performance of the government both at the Centre and at the State.

The people were very upset over the “heavy inflation” prevailing in the country; they said that there was a need to find out and eliminate the causes of inflation. In response, Chondakar and Ravi said that the Congress party would raise issue before the government.

The vendors and shopkeepers complained to the Congress leaders that since the cost of living has gone up, there was nothing left of their earnings to save. They further complained that since the prices of petrol and diesel have shot up, the transportation cost of goods too have shot up, which in turn has led to rise in prices of other commodities and food items.

The people bitterly complained about the hike in domestic LPG gas too. “All these factors have seriously affected our livelihood as we have to spend more money even on basic necessities,” complained a person.

Chitra, a lady vendor, at Ponda market said, “The government should give some relief to us on the domestic power bills, which has been hiked many-fold.”

She complained that the municipal staffers have been seizing their plastic carry bags. She questioned why the poor vendors are fined for possessing plastic carry bags, when companies producing plastic carry bags have not been banned by the government. [H]
