Margao: The Navelim Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro has claimed that the various departments of Goa and its officials, authorities have gone completely dysfunctional in recent times. Luizinho claimed that the officials have not been following even the orders of the chief minister’s office on various urgent and important works.
Luizinho told the media that despite the directions from higher ups, the works of development, urgent repairs and upgrades are not happening.
“Navelim has become a hub of education which gets a footfall of at least 10,000 students daily. Now, instead of the constituency developing ahead it is regressing. After ten years, when I came only to find out that the traffic signal is not working. I wrote to the DGP, PWD and other officials. Some replied some and have not, but nothing has been happening on the upkeep of these facilities,” Luizinho alleged.
Luizinho pointed out that the subway that was constructed for the pedestrians, especially the students, is totally dysfunctional. “Water logging in the subway has prevented the pedestrians from coming here and instead risk themselves in the fast moving traffic on the National Highway. Despite the assurances from office of the chief minister and NHAI and also the PWD, traffic problem and the subway issue is far from resolution just like that of traffic signals,” he said.
“I wrote to the office of CM, which replied positively and ordered resolution. However, the government has wasted one year in correspondence,” Luizinho said.
Citing an example of the Revenue Department, Luizinho said that the traffic has increased in the Navelim central areas. “The road has been broadened, but the Revenue Department has not provided the compensation for the acquired land in Navelim for three and half years. These are the lands taken for widening of road from Navelim to Dramapur,” he said.
“The bottlenecks are creating problems for students here and when I wrote to the authorities they have failed to acquire the lands for bottlenecks clearing too,” he said.
“There is total neglect and officials and are acting totally irresponsible. The excuse they give is no budget allocation but the important works for Goans can’t wait for budgets,” Faleiro declared.
“Government is not functioning down the line and hence they must take action against the officials who are erring here. Problem of digging of roads still continues, orders of collector have to be obeyed and violators have to be arrested. The dug roads are creating death traps,” he demanded. [H]
