Vasco: Residents of buildings near the new project site of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) in Vollant, Vaddem, Vasco have complained of serious damage to the buildings due to the vibrations from the piling work at the site. The people filed a complaint with the Vasco Police, on Wednesday, demanding action against this work and the damage it has caused to their assets.
At least 50 persons living in residential buildings around the GSL work site have petitioned the Vasco police to take action against the serious damage caused to their premises. The residents have shot a video in their building where in a glass filled with water vibrates dangerously while the piling work at the GSL work site goes on.
Local Councillor Nandadeep Raut said, “The people have also shown that some of the columns of the building have developed massive cracks and pieces of cement plastering have fallen off from the roof in various residences. There are at least 30 to 40 complaints of building residents itself and several others of independent houses, old houses too regarding the damage the work has caused,” Raut said.
Earlier, a complaint was filed against this work to the MMC Chief Officer and the GSL was asked to stop work until the repairs of the complainants is completed. However, the GSL has not paid any heed to this complaints as well as the order of the MMC Chief Officer stopping piling work at the site. The work goes on in full force.
A resident Joseph Fernandes said, “People are fearing to stay in the building as the vibrations not only cause trouble to young and old persons, but also have caused irreparable damage to the structure of the buildings.” [H]
