It is still quite bumpy

Panjim: Days after the state government launched Goa’s first app-based taxi service ‘Goa Miles’, the locals as well as tourists have already started experiencing technical problems while booking services across the State.

People have complained of the app not detecting the current pickup location whereas some have complained that during the booking phase an alert pops up which reads ‘Sorry, no vehicle available to dispatch’.

While the Goa miles app has reached 12,000 download on day-one of its launch, the Transport Department has encountered teething problems. Sources said that two problems – illiteracy among taxi drivers to use the app and in-sufficient data, were noticed. However, despite these problems, as many as 350 trips were recorded in Tuesday.

People have also started voicing their opinion about the technical issues with the app on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

“Dear @manoharparrikar #GoaMiles has a taxi app that looks dicey and does not work! Please lo0k into it. #Goa” David D’souza posted on Twitter

Another citizen Xylon Gracias took to Facebook stating that “My company would have thrown me out of I had deployed such an app on Live. Need loads of improvements. Your testers have done a very very shabby job.”

Locals speaking to Herald have also said that the app is not up to the mark as compared to other cab booking service apps like the Ola and Uber wherein commuters have to first pay for the services.

“Yesterday I was in a process of booking a cab from the Goa Miles app but for some reason the maps were not loading thus not allowing me to chose the location,” said Vishal.

Another tourist who is in Goa for holidays said that there were some issues with app in terms of locations where in some locations that were in South Goa were shown in North.

“During the launch we had said that the first few month there would be teething issues. There have been almost 21,000 downloads in the last 72 hours. We have identified that problem in the app and our technical team is working on it. By 9 am tomorrow the issue will be sorted.” said Frotomiles Pvt Ltd, Managing Director Utkarsh Dabade

Meanwhile, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Chairman Nilesh Cabral speaking on the technical issues said, “There are some initial hiccups. Being a new initiative teething problem will always be there at least for a month. You may also not get taxi as still there are taxi operators who are in the process of registering. Give us two or three months and after that everything will smoothen.”

Auto and pilots under app soon Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) proposes to bring in auto rickshaw and pilots under its first ever taxi-app ‘Goamiles’, which was launched earlier this week. GTDC chairman Nilesh Cabral said that once the app starts to pick up, rickshaws and motorcycle pilots will be brought under the app, so that the people can book their preferred transport service. “Rickshaws and motorcycles will also be brought under the app in the next phase,” he stated. The cab service has four different transport options available, including Hatchback, Sedan, SUV and SUV Classic. All the options will have only standard pricing. The payment for the travel can be made either cash or using online service like debt or credit card. The app, which sets your pickup and drop locations and see all available taxis near you location, also has an in-built ‘PANIC’ button to ensure that the safety of passengers isn’t compromised. [H]
