GO-A
GET THEM BOYS
MARGAO:
Goa's five-year hiatus from international limelight in cricket
is finally set to end today as India plays England in the
third of the seven-match TVS Cup one-day international series
at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, here. All hiccups suffered
by the cricket fans after the 2001 'ticketgate' scandal
which rocked the state is now history. Getting back into
the mainstream of Indian cricket has been more than a welcome
sign for the Goan fans and more so for the Goa Cricket Association.
The spirits are high and the mood is one of festival atmosphere.
Goans will hope that Rahul Dravid and company do not disappoint
them like Sourav Ganguly's team did the last time around
losing to the Australians in a series decider at this venue.

Need
to Conserve Natural Drainage Networks
Islands, lateritic plateaus, river valleys, foothills
and western ghats - that is how the undulating landscape
of Goa appears geomorphologically. More interesting is
the hydrographic picture - the hundreds of primary and
secondary streams in the western ghats which terminate
into the freshwater tributaries of the western flowing
estauries. The traditional drainage systems built by the
village Gaunkarias - the Comunidades - complete the picture.
These systems are so well integrated in the natural hydrographic
systems that any interference disturbs the smooth discharge
of water during the monsoons. Natural hydropgraphy, natural
drainage systems and man made drainage systems have saved
Goa from flooding. But this picture is changing now. (Nandkumar

India
amass 294 for 6 against England
FATORDA:
At the ODI being played at the Nehru Stadium here, winning the
toss and opting to bat first, India has amassed 294 runs for 6
against England. It is proving to be a very exciting match being
watched by thousands of cricket lovers who have packed the stands,
some of them having purchased the tickets in the black, and left
home at around 3 am in the morning to reach the stadium and be
present inside it in time. The highlight of India's innings was
Iuvraj Singh, who enjoyed a superb knock of 103 runs, batting
fluently despite the Fatorda wicket being not exactly suited to
good stroke play. Virendra Sewag was cleaned bowled for 15. Young
Suresh Raina, with his terrific survival attitude, scored 61.
India, who has been leading the ODI series 2-0, has been poised
quite favourably in today's international one-dayer at Fatorda
in Goa. (GoaNewsClips)
