Getting back into the mainstream of Indian cricket has been more than a welcome sign for the Goan fans and more so for the Goa Cricket Association. The spirits are high and the mood is one of festival atmosphere. Need to Conserve Natural Drainage Networks
Islands, lateritic plateaus, river valleys, foothills and western ghats - that is how the undulating landscape of Goa appears geomorphologically. More interesting is the hydrographic picture - the hundreds of primary and secondary streams in the western ghats which terminate into the freshwater tributaries of the western flowing estauries. The traditional drainage systems built by the village Gaunkarias - the Comunidades - complete the picture. These systems are so well integrated in the natural hydrographic systems that any interference disturbs the smooth discharge of water during the monsoons. Natural hydropgraphy, natural drainage systems and man made drainage systems have saved Goa from flooding. But this picture is changing now. (Nandkumar Kamat, Glimpses-NT)
