IN NETHERLANDS
CALANGUTE,
Feb 3: “Devil in Man”, a painting by Goa’s
renowned artist Yolanda D’Souza, was auctioned at
Haque Auction House in Netherlands on February 1, according
to a message received by her today from an art lover –
Bart - in that country. The beautiful painting, along with
the creative work of several other contemporary artists,
had earlier been auctioned at Fort Aguada Beach Resort,
Sinquerim-Goa, to raise funds for the earthquake victims
in Gujarat. Thereafter none of the artists had heard anything
about the paintings, until Yolanda received an email message
from Bart, who located her email id by accessing the internet.
Yolanda disclosed the information to us at her Galeria &
Studio, in Calangute, at the inauguration of "Sacrifice"
and exhibition of the paintings of Goan Sonia Rodrigues
Sabharwal. (GoaNewsClips)

The
Mando lives on
One of the earliest signs of
the coming together of cultures in the state is the Mando
- a song of love and a song that can still be heard. With
it's sensual music and dance, the Mando can also be called
Goa's oldest song. The Mando symbolises Goa in its purest
form. Thus in keeping the mando alive, Goa maintains that
connection with its past and cements its future as well. (Kurt

like her growth, marriage and pregnancy is no longer what it used

Judiciary's response to sex
tourism
In recent yeas, the growth of tourism
in Goa has had an adverse effect on the child population
living along the coastal areas. The children targetted are
generally the migrants,
the street children, those from broken homes, working in
shacks, hotels and restaurants. The problem of sex tourism
in Goa was first highlighted when Freddy Peat, a German
national who ran an orphanage in Goa, was arrested at the
behest of a Bombay-based journalist, Sheela Bharse. He was
later convicted for life on charges of having supplied several
children through the orphanage run by him to people of British,
French, German, Swiss and Scandinavian nationalities. (Shanti
