PRAYING
TOGETHER
BY ARTI DAS
Various
rituals and rites performed by communities in Goa not only
highlight similarities but also brandish the spirit of brotherhood.
Some of these similarities are seen in performing art forms
like music, dance and theatre, as also in feasts, fairs
and festivals. A remarkable feature of the bond between
communities is the absence of bitterness from the past.
Zagor performances staged annually in Siolim (Gudem) could
be cited as a good example of communal harmony and understanding.
Zagor is a folk play presented by the Gauda community. It
is held every year, after the feast of Our Lady of Guia.
The Hindus and Christians celebrate Zagor in a traditionally
theatric form and till today, this tradition has brought
families and religious sentiments of both the communities
together. (GT)
