Cuncolim: State's envy, local MLA's pride
CUNCOLIM: This semi-urban township can give major cities in Goa a run for their money. And, make city fathers in the rest of the state boil with envy. Just imagine, for a population in the region of around 25,000 in Cuncolim, the state government has lined up a whopping nine projects, four of which have already been completed. And need we mention that local MLA Joaquim Alemao is also the Urban Development Minister in addition to being the Chairman of the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) - the latter in charge of executing all these projects? Coconut farmers in quandary over pluckers
PANJIM, Jan 2: Coconut forms the basis of Goan cuisine. But Goans might be compelled to reduce the use of coconut in their diet in near future, and mind you, not for any health reasons. Non-availability of coconuts would be the sole reason as farmers are now finding it extremely difficult to harvest the produce for want of "padekars" (people who climb the coconut trees). High cost of cultivation has also put off coconut farmers. [H]
