Panjim: Transport Department has asked Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) not to exceed the permissible shuttle service on the Panjim-Mapusa-Panjim route. The instructions were issued during the coordination committee’s second meeting attended by representatives of KTC and private bus operators on Thursday.
All Goa Private Bus Owners Association general secretary Sudip Tamhankar said the association members alleged that around 20 KTCL shuttle services were operating on the Panjim-Mapusa route as against the permissible fleet of five buses. “The bus registration numbers are recorded to ensure only these five buses ply on this route,” he told Herald after the meeting chaired by Transport Director Nikhil Desai.
The committee members also discussed avoiding a clash in timings of private and KTCL buses on the same route, which has been noticed in Ibrahmpur (Pernem), Sanquelim, Marcel, Pernem and other places. The Corporation and the private bus operators have been asked to amicably resolve the issue.
In a bid to clear chaos from Panjim and Mapusa bus stands, coordination committee members are expected to inspect the sites in the second half of the month. Desai is also expected to join the team.
The private bus operators’ demand to increase fares will be placed for discussion at the next meeting. Tamhankar said they are justified in demanding a hike in bus fares as the diesel prices have shot up to around Rs 73, an increase by around Rs 20 in the last 4-5 years. [H]
