Margao: Former BJP Minister and present Congressman from Shiroda Mahadev Naik on Wednesday met the former chief minister Digamber Kamat at his residence. Though he denied that it was a political visit, Mahadev did opine that the campaigning in Shiroda would at least require two months for a clear win. Congress has also confirmed of contesting Panjim by-elections.
Subhash Shirodkar resigned as Shiroda MLA, quit Congress and then joined the BJP necessitating by-election there.
Taking offence to the induction of Shirodkar into BJP, Mahadev quit the party and has joined Congress recently. Mahadev Naik has been an aspirant for Shiroda Congress ticket, but the wait has been little too long for all the aspirants.
Commenting on the elections, Mahadev said, “Shiroda is a big constituency by size. Campaigning Shiroda effectively takes at least 2 months,” he said. Mahadev said that he is sure of a win if he gets the Congress ticket.
“I met the Margao MLA Digamber Kamat but it was apolitical,” he said. The Congress has been continuously delaying the declaration of candidates for all the elections they plan to contest. With the BJP already prepared and MGP also in the fray the campaigning of Congress is slow but on. Mahadev Naik has claimed that he has already started campaign.
Meanwhile, The GPCC President Girish Chodankar on Wednesday revealed that Congress is very much prepared to contest the Panjim by-election. Girish told that they are searching for candidates for the Panjim seat. [H]
