Margao’s Old Market traffic circle reduced in size

Margao: Margao Municipal workers supervised by the engineers last night reduced the size Old Market traffic circle by half in an operation that commenced at 10.30 in the night and ended at 4 in the morning.

The traffic island that was 20 mts in diameter has now been reduced to 10 mts diameter. Ten labourers of the council supervised by three engineers including Municipal Engineer Manoj Arsekar and a supervisor carried out the work with the help of a hired JCB.

Although PWD water supply representative was supposed to be present to guide the workers about the underground water supply line there, nobody from that department was present at the site; and it is to the credit of the municipal engineers that the water supply line was not damaged.

The cut portion is presently cordoned off by the traffic police and the Public Works Department (roads division) is supposed to clean up and re-carpet the cut portion of the traffic island.

All traffic islands that have traffic signals installed are slated for reduction in diameter. While the Old Market circle has been cut, next in line are the Bolsche circle and Arlem traffic island. Incidentally, traffic signals are installed at Bolshe circle while the work is on at Arlem Island. [H]
