MMC inspects drain, stumbles upon a major violation

Margao: During the inspection of an overflowing drain, MMC Chairperson and her team stumbled upon a major violation as incomplete building behind the municipality has been used for commercial purposes and religious gatherings without obtaining the occupancy certificate.

The MMC has now decided to take stern action against this violation following several complaints from the residents that the building is being used for commercial purposes and for religious gatherings.

MMC Chairperson Babita Angle, Sanitary Inspector Viraj Arabekar and other MMC staff had gone for an inspection of an overflowing drain behind the MMC building near the old fish Market. The Chairperson and her team saw a half complete building here is being used to store bananas. It later came to light that incomplete building has been caught up in a litigation case as no Occupancy Certificate has been obtained.

During the inspection, the MMC officials observed that the ground floor is being used to store bananas and the first floor as warehouse for various goods. The MMC has also revealed that there have been noise pollution complaints from the residents during religious gatherings on weekends.

Angle vowed to take action against this blatant violation and has expressed surprise over the brazen attempt to subvert the MMC. When questioned on this blatant violation, the advocate, who has leased out the building, claimed that he has applied for an Occupancy Certificate.It was revealed that the lessees of this incomplete building have been provided with electricity connection.
