Monsoons over, but Opinion Poll portraits yet to make a comeback

Margao: The portraits of 36 stalwarts of the historic Opinion Poll which had been removed are yet to be reinstalled back in its place. The portraits had been removed during the monsoon season to prevent any damage to the canvas and the acrylic frame.

“They should have brought them back by now. The rainy season is over.”, said a senior citizen who was sitting on one of the benches. “The place is being used by people at night to drink beer,” he said.

Sidhanath Buyao, the son of one of the stalwarts, said that the Opinion Poll square was just a publicity stunt by Goa Forward Party to use leaders like Jack Sequiera to gain popularity and not for the love of Opinion Poll which is why they have forgotten about it. “Right from the beginning I’ve been saying that the road was not the right place. They should have installed the portraits either in the South Goa Collectorate complex or Ravindra Bhavan complex. There they won’t need police guarding them”, he said

The portraits were installed in January this year and required two police constables at all times for protection. [H]
