Panjim: The State government has appointed senior Indian Police Services (IPS) officer Paramaditya to supervise the ongoing investigation into the main mining scam involving politicians, bureaucrats, mining traders and other individuals.
His appointment comes at the time when the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the multi-crore mining scandal is expected to file a chargesheet against a mining trader.
As per the order signed by under secretary (Personnel-II) Shanshank Thakur, ‘Paramaditya (IPS) has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General to supervise the function of Superintendent of Police in North and South Districts and Head of Special Investigation Team to investigate mining related cases, with immediate effect, in public interest.’ With this, Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh has been relieved from all additional charges.
Goa Crime Branch’s SIT is investigating nearly 10 cases related to illegal mining, which have been chargesheeted while the main mining case comprising alleged illegalities and irregularities in 187-odd leases is presently under investigation.
