Overflowing septic manholes –Catastrophe in the making

Using motorised pumps labourers have been pumping water out from sewage manholes constructed in the middle of the roads. These manholes have been constructed less than a year ago along the Rosary Church, Navelim-Aquem road. These manholes should be 100 per cent leak proof, but they have already started overflowing.

One can imagine what will be the groundwater condition when sewage treatment plant at Sirvodem, Navelim commences.

I fear that sewage may get mixed with the groundwater and the worst situation could be that the same could enter the pipelines supplying drinking water to households.

Mixing of sewage with water will be a health hazard for the people of Navelim.

I request the government to cross check the efficiency of this sewage system or else this could lead to a catastrophe in future. [H]
