Politicians trying to delay Cortalim Sarpanch polls: D’Sa

Vasco: Deputy Sarpanch of Cortalim Raymond D’Sa has alleged that some politicians have been attempting to delay the election to the post of Sarpanch. The post has been lying vacant for nearly three months after sarpanch Senia Pereira was ousted.

The Deputy Sarpanch claimed that the election is to be conducted within 60 days from the seat falling vacant however even after 82 days there is no certainty if the elections of sarpanch will be held.

“They are planning to defer the elections now. Some politician has interfered and sent the BDO on sick leave to delay the elections. The elections are to be held on Saturday now, but no one knows whether they would happen or not”, he charged. The Deputy Sarpanch alleged that the former sarpanch Pereira was involved in corrupt practices.

D’Sa said, “I have got her elected and now I have heard that she is demanding money from people to get their work done.”

Rubbishing the allegations, Pereira said that D’Sa has made the claims to cover his own unscrupulous activities.

Former sarpanch Pereira informed that she will file her nomination for the upcoming elections to the post of Sarpanch. [H]
