Vasco: The yellow black taximen at Goa International Airport have accused the rent a cab operator counter of putting up pre-paid taxi board thereby encroaching into their business.
The cabbies have termed the move as illegal and have demanded action against the contractor.
There are three taxi counters at the airport namely Goa Miles, Rent-a-Cab and Yellow Black Taxis. The yellow black taximen recently realised that the rent a cab counter has put up a “prepaid taxi” board at his counter. This move has angered them and they have now demanded that the Government take immediate action.
“They are encroaching into the businesses of the yellow black taxis operating at the Goa International Airport,” alleged Sanjay Naik of the United Taximen Association.
“They are rent-a-cab operators, who rent cars, have converted the rent-a-cab counter into a pre-paid counter. The Government machinery i.e. Airport Director and Director Transport is hushing up the matter. This is illegal and we will approach the High Court in this regard,” Adv Herculano Dourado warned.
Yellow Black Taxi Owners Association president Mahesh Naik said, “We have been opposing the counter ever since they attempted to set up counter at the airport. Not just illegal advertising as prepaid taxi, we have learnt that he has been overcharging passengers “.
“We have written to the authorities and we urge the Government and Transport Department to step in and direct him to remove the prepaid taxi board,” Mahesh demanded. [H]
