Mapusa: Criticising the pathetic condition of the proposed new bus stand site at Mapusa, the North Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday claimed that the area is a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes due to the water stagnation following heavy downpour.
Three years after the land acquisition, the new Mapusa bus stand is still a dream waiting to be fulfilled. The site is turning out to be dangerous for commuters and is a cause for concern on account of the interstate buses entering and exiting the area.
The Congress members demonstrated against the pathetic state of the proposed bus stand site by sitting in a makeshift boat and moving their way through the accumulated water.
Addressing the media persons at the proposed site, the North Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Vijai Bhike highlighted that the stagnant water at the defunct bus stand shows the inefficiency of the BJP government in completing such a valuable project in Mapusa.
“The stagnant water in this open space has turned it into a breeding ground for mosquitoes. This could give rise to a number of vector-borne diseases. I think the file for this particular project has not been cleared,” Bhike alleged.
“Is the Chief Minister trying to show his defiance in completing the project or is he least bothered about the development of Mapusa,” he questioned.
GPCC member Sudin Naik alleged that the government is only fooling the people in terms of the developmental projects but none of its projects have materialised. [H]
