PWD installs signboard to stop heavy vehicles on Mugoli culvert

Sanguem: Consequent to report on Herald of August 6, 2018, highlighting the plight of weak culvert at Mugoli Sanguem, the PWD authorities installed a signboard on either side of the culvert stating ‘Weak Culvert Closed For Heavy Vehicles’.

The signboard was badly required for this old culvert. However, with the authorities finally installing the much needed signboard, the movement of heavy vehicles will be stopped for the time being and till the time the culvert is reconstructed.

It is pertinent to note that the over 35-year-old culvert has become very weak and is on the verge of collapse. The metal bars underneath the bridge are exposed all along the culvert and are highly corroded.

It is also noted that the cement plaster of the culvert has given way and the foundation of the culvert is also weakened over the passage of time.

PWD Engineer Nadkarni attached to Roads and Bridges, Sanguem informed that the culvert will be reconstructed soon by placing ready-made concrete blocks.

Meanwhile the villagers have also called the authorities for constructing the retaining wall alongside both ends of the culvert for the safety of the vehicle riders.

The culvert is exclusively used by the villagers from Mugoli, Maragan and other areas to proceed to Sanguem town. [H]
