Rains damage houses, huts in rural areas of Sattari

Valpoi: Normal life was thrown out of gear following heavy downpour in Sattari on Wednesday as several houses and huts were damaged in the rural areas of the taluka.

Sattari locals, especially in the rural areas, complained of losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees as the rains and gusty winds left their property including huts, houses and fields damaged.

According to locals, following heavy downpour and gusty winds, incidents of trees getting uprooted were reported in the rural areas. Houses were damaged and power supply was disrupted as branches snapped power lines in Velus.

Besides, incidents of trees getting uprooting were also reported in the villages of Dhave, Uste and Khotodem.“In three separate incidents, three jackfruit trees fell on three houses in Barazan village causing losses in lakhs of rupees, informed Shivnath Usapkar, a villager.
Several banana plantations were damaged in Karmali Budruk village and power lines snapped which left our area in total darkness following reports of trees getting uprooted, said Rudresh Gaonkar, another local.The Valpoi fire officials were busy in clearing the trees. [H]
