Residents voice opposition to projects in Ribandar

Panjim: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) consultation meet on Monday turned after locals raised several concerns and objections pertaining to various developmental projects in Ribandar.

As IPSCDL team presented the plan showcasing various projects that would be undertaken at Ribandar such as smart grid-under grounding of power network, laying of several network, CCTV network installation, football ground, upgradation of jetty and community centre cum fish market people expressed their displeasure with the smart city team failing to present a proper plan for the same on how some of these projects would be undertaken.

However, IPSCDL MD and CEO Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri while convincing the locals informed that that smart city is a people’s movement and if people do not want it it will not be taken up against the wishes of the people.

Advocate Aires Rodrigues and activists who were present for the meeting raised objections to the smart city presentation on underground electrical cabling as IPSDL had failed to get a detailed plan on the cabling network. However, Chaudhuri assured that a detailed plan will presented to the people before finalising the plan.

Another local raised issues on the jetty stating that such a massive jetty project is not required for Ribandar keeping in mind that approximately only 6-7 seven fishing families would be using the space. However, in this regard IPSCDL assured that people’s views would be taken into consideration.

Further, locals also raised a suggestion that they do not want a community centre cum fish market as it would lead to chaotic situations in terms of foul smell and parking related issues as the land identified lacked space.

Meanwhile, all the necessary feedback was taken from locals on the various projects to be undertaken under the smart city mission in Ribandar with the aim to implement the project the way people want. [H]
