Rising level of sea causes panic along Salcete coastline

Margao: Rising level of the sea created a little bit of panic along the Salcete coastline particularly as people are busy erecting the sea shacks permitted by the Tourism Department. In fact the water rose quite alarmingly at Colva the queen of beaches in South Goa.

Visitors to the beach in the morning saw the huge waves and were terrified as the waves were crashing way beyond the watch tower erected by Drishti the life guard organization. It may be recalled that yesterday the water had risen in nearby Betalbatim beach bringing the shack erection activity to a grinding hald.

Even at Palolem in Canacona taluka the water level had risen quite high but locals dismissed it as a regular feature during the monsoon season and are quite used to it happening every year. [H]
