Salgoni and Verlem fear being cut off from rest of the world

Sanguem: Due to continuous rains since last two days, fears are expressed by the villagers residing in the remote hilly areas of Salgoni and Verlem in Netravali Panchayat of their villages being cut off from Netravali.

Netravali Sarpanch Rajini Gaonkar informed that due to heavy rains, loose mud all along the road leading to Salgoni from Netravali has given way, blocking a portion of the road at some two places.

Due to the caving in of the loose mud, the lone KTC bus plying to Salgini has suspended its operation and halts at Netravali.

Gaonkar informed that if the scenario turns worse and if no action is initiated by the government agencies, then, vehicular traffic to the village would be suspended completely and the village would be totally cut off from other villages.

It is pertinent to note that last month, a major portion if the side wall at Salgoni had given way and the vehicular traffic to the village was suspended for a couple of days.

Immediately after getting the information, the team of officials from PWD (Roads and Bridges Sanguem) visited Salgoni village and assured the villagers of timely action in the matter. Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar also acquainted himself with the problems faced by the villagers residing at Salgini and directed the PWD officials to clear the debris fallen on the road. [H]
