Sancoale Comunidade elections in Jan or Feb

Vasco: The fresh elections to Sancoale Comunidade will be held by end of January or first week of February. The District Collector held a meeting with the election officers and has decided the same. The Collector has also decided to change the venue of election.

The election to the posts of president, attorney, treasurer of the Sancoale Comunidade was supposed to be held earlier last week. However, all the shareholders and the candidates insisted on cancellation of the process alleging that the presiding officer did not follow the procedure to keep the election a free and fair exercise.

It may be recalled that the elections to the Sancoale Comunidade were deferred after opposition was witnessed over allegedly faulty procedures followed by the presiding officer in conduct of election. The election was scheduled to be held on Sunday morning and has now been deferred to a further date.

The Collector has also decided to change the venue of the next election to a hall nearby instead of the comunidade office to keep the affair free from untoward situations.

The opposing groups had alleged that the ballot papers were allowed to be taken outside even as the election process was on. The opposition had also alleged that the candidates in fray were seen filling ballot papers themselves outside the polling centre with no one to stop them. [H]
