Search on for missing Ugem sarpanch

The police have intensified the search for the Sarpanch of Ugem village panchayat, Mr Dashrath Gaonkar, aged 37, who is missing since Saturday. The police said that despite intense searching, the whereabouts of Mr Gaonkar were still not known.

Sanguem police on Monday said that they have received a missing report from his family member on Sunday, which says that he is missing since Saturday evening. He was last seen with his wife and a relative.
Mr Alan D’Sa, the Superintendent of Police, South Goa said, “We have been searching for him since the last two days. We visited the site where he was last seen, to try and find out as to where he might have gone from there.” He informed that two police platoons were engaged in the search operations, besides the entire Quepem divisional staff. However, he said that the efforts so far have not yielded any result. “We are continuing the search in other parts of the jungle,” he said.
Sanguem police said that on October 20, Mr Gaonkar, along with his wife and a relative went to their ancestral house at Walkini from Ugem to perform some religious ceremonies. Police said that the house is located around 10 kms form Ugem, in forested area.
According to information, after completing the ceremony, they returned back home and when he was about to enter his house at Ugem, Mr Gaonkar received a call on his cell phone, reportedly from his sister, which he asked his wife to attend. Police said that while his wife was attending the call, Mr Gaonkar somehow disappeared from the site and has not been seen since. His wife and the relative searched for him for sometime but could not find him. [NT]
