Seraulim residents aghast at brazen illegal construction

Margao: Residents of Seraulim are aghast over a brazen illegal construction that is coming up on comunidade fields just next to the Mungul-Colva road that has recently been widened and the panchayat appears to be not taking any action.

Villagers had complained to the panchayat in December about this illegal construction as it had no permission or licence from the panchayat and besides there is no proper set back area from the main road. Four shops are being constructed illegally and as there is no set back, the mess that will result once the shops commence operation can only be imagined.

When villagers questioned the panchayat they were reportedly told that a ‘stop work’ order was issued to the person carrying on the construction. However, the supervisor on the site denied having received any such order.

Besides, he reportedly told the villagers that the panchayat is monitoring the progress of the construction as it is regularly informed about the progress of work.

On Wednesday, some villagers submitted another complaint to the sarpanch over the matter with copies marked to the Block Development Officer, Collector and Directors of Panchayat and Vigilance. [H]
