Shiroda locals protest PHC doc’s transfer

Ponda: Shiroda locals agitated for two days in front of Shiroda Hospital demanding the cancellation of Dr Vijayatha Naik’s transfer order.

Police rushed to the spot to maintain law and order as tension prevailed at the site. The locals gave a 15-day ultimatum to authorities to cancel the transfer order. The locals were happy with the services rendered by Dr Vijayatha.

As tension prevailed at the site on Thursday, Ponda Police Inspector Harish Madcaikar had served notice to some locals to be present at the Ponda Police Station asking them to stay away from the protest, warning of action against them. However, on Friday hundreds of locals protested in front of hospital demanding cancellation of the transfer order of the doctor to Kasavalim Health Centre.

“It is wrong on the part of some locals to stage a protest as the transfer order is part of Government service,” said police officials. It is learnt that the said doctor has completed more than three years at the PHC and that he is also a resident of Shiroda.

However, as tension continued on Friday morning at Shiroda PHC, the Shiroda Panchayat also wrote to the Director of Health Service stating that locals are agitating against the transfer and requested to cancel the transfer of Dr Vijayatha.

Copies were also sent to local MLA Subash Shirodkar. The copy of memorandum has also been handed over to Dr Freda D’Sa who is the Health Official at Shiroda PHC. [H]
